Hi, I'm August!

I’m a designer, artist, and communications strategist based in amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton).

For me, design is a lot more than just making something look nice – it’s a research based, holistic process that focuses on meeting people where they’re at and working together to find solutions that work for them.

As a kid, if I wasn’t reading, I was drawing or experimenting with all the glorious possibilities of Microsoft Word Art. I’m really lucky that my career in design dovetails so well with so many of my early interests.

I’ve worked in a few different fields in the last few years, but I have a special place in my heart for education-related design. Both my parents, my brother (and a lot of my extended family) are teachers, so I’ve grown up with a deep appreciation for the science/art of teaching. I love learning about learning – I want to know how people think, what makes them care about a subject; and why they remember certain information. It turns out that answering those questions is the bedrock behind any good design project.

Put simply, whatever I make should be functional, accurate, and hopefully a joy to interact with.
